Getting started writing some mornings is more difficult than others. Although I have a few things that I have been thinking about lately, finding the words to work out how I feel about the topics isn’t fully structured yet. The point of this writing location is to work through completely random and unstructured thinking, but even some topics still are not there. There may be an added level of trying to write something in public that adds an additional level of hesitation. So far, this experiment of publishing my raw journal writing hasn’t been too bad. There hasn’t been much that I question should I share it out. I know there are not any real major insights I am publishing. These are just raw thoughts, and updates about what is going on in my life.
My main goal for started to write in public like this was to reduce my resistance for writing in public in general. Take away the thought that what I publish needs to be special or at some level of quality, by just publishing everything. I want the resistance to be worn down to near zero as we approach our long motorcycle trip. Being comfortable just sharing out what is going on I think will make the journey even more interesting. Take the idea that it needs to be some type of performance off the table. I also hope that I can take some of these rough ideas that I write about here, and turn them into more fully thought through pieces. I would need to sit down and work on writing as a focused exercise, which I haven’t really allocated time and energy on. Who knows when that is going to happen.
I am still thinking about my use of social media while traveling. It is a difficult tool to get a handle on. Not that I am much of a creator on these platforms. On the positive side I have been able to see what other travelers are doing. Some have been true inspirations for our travels, and way of traveling. People who I don’t get the sense are doing it for the sponsorships, or the followers. People who clearly love what they are doing, and just want to share. In my opinion, a behavior that is much closer to the origins of the internet. Sharing what you know or what you are doing, even if no one is following, and without any sense of reward or compensation. Finding people like this even if the platforms are terrible seems to make it worth using platforms like Facebook and Instagram. But, trying to manage these platforms to make them somewhat reasonable to use is work. Unfollowing, or blocking as many distracting sources as possible is some type of next generation game of Whac-A-Mole.
