We have a few days before we leave for our two month trip to Florida. It is getting down to trying to get all the gear packed up correctly and ensuring we have the bikes how we want them. Yesterday I spent a few hours just getting the Mosko Moto luggage mounted on the bikes, and setting up the new first aid kit that will go on the bikes. Now today I need to figure out which chain oil I am going to bring with us on the bikes. When traveling this way, it is all about thinking through what you are going to need and then where you are going to put the item. I’ve even started to list where I put each thing so I am not opening up every part of our luggage to find something when needed on the road.
And since we are leaving as winter is approaching Southern Colorado, I need to make sure the house is ready for winter. I did much of that work last week, but I had a few things to finish up yesterday. Such as shutting down the irrigation lines, and rolling up the hoses. When we get back here it should all covered in snow if the winter predictions are going to play out as expected. When we get back, I hope to get some good snowboarding in, but I also know my head is going to be in full planning mode to leave for the big trip. I hope we learn a few things on this Florida trip that help inform us what is really needed on this longer trip. The main thing is trying to figure out what we don’t truly need.
The difficult part of being new to this type of travel is not having the experience of what we may run into. I can watch what other travelers run into all day, and still not be sure what we will experience. I think it is just trying to figure out as much as we can, then learning along the way. I know after several months all of this concern will likely seem silly. But, until you experience traveling this way for a long time yourself it is difficult to say how it will work for you.
